Want something sexy to wear this Halloween or to your next costume party? Then the Poison Ivy costume might be the very thing that you are looking for! At the very least, you’ll catch the eyes of any Batman fans.
Poison Ivy is a character from DC Comics’ Batman franchise. She was a botanist, who due to some unfortunate accident involving plants, became part plant herself. Her blood became sap, and she became immune to natural toxins. Moreover, she gained the power to control plants and a kiss which would kill or cure. She also had the ability to release pheromones, which affected people around her, making her even more desirable.
Poison Ivy is one of the most well-known Batman villains, perhaps because she is more than just an opponent to Batman. Events have led to the creation of romantic tension between her and Batman, and she has tried to seduce him to becoming her “king” at least a couple of times.
In addition, she is also what we now call an eco-terrorist – a person who commits various acts of violence or sabotage in support of the cause for environmentalism or animal rights. The juxtaposition of her worthy cause and her criminal acts are part of what makes her a compelling character.
As the Poison Ivy character has undergone several revisions and thus changes in style, there are a couple of Poison Ivy costume variations. It all depends on whether you prefer to wear a unitard or a short dress – which will be explained.
The first costume variation features a design more commonly associated with the cartoons than with the movies. It features a unitard with a dark green torso, and limbs of a lighter green. There is some fringing to the bodice that gives it a leaf-like look. The costume comes with sleevelets and boot covers in the same darker green as the torso. You’ll have to get boots of your own, but at least the wig comes with the costume.
The other variation of the Poison Ivy costume is a short dress made of faux suede, with the bottom made of several layers of fabric fringed with a leaf pattern. This is the version more commonly known in the movies. The hairpiece is a styled red wig with vines attached. A leaf boa and detached sleevelets complete the look of this botanical femme fatale.
Now you are good to grow!

Available Poison Ivy Costume Sizes
The unitard Poison Ivy costume variation is available in adults’ Small and Medium sizes. The dress costume variant is available in X-Small, Small, and Medium. Sadly, there aren’t any larger sizes for these costumes.
One piece of feedback that a customer had sent in said that the unitard is shorter than expected. The sleevelets and tights are also thinner than you might expect.
Additionally, the dress costume variant is quite short so taller girls might not be comfortable with it. Please take note that it’s a bit large around the bust. Some shorts would be recommended for this costume.
On a side note, the headpiece for the dress variant features vines and it is quite delicate. Vines may come off, so it is recommended than you have some glue to stick them back on.
Both of these costumes are licensed by DC Comics, so you’re sure to get something that really reflects their character!
Poison Ivy Background Information
Behind every superhero or supervillain is a real person, and Poison Ivy is no exception. She was originally a botanist from Seatlle by the name of Pamela Lillian Isley. Her first origin was as a survivor of a poisoning attempt using some stolen Ancient Egyptian herbs. This was revised later on, and her now-canonical origin involves plant and animal toxins injected into her by her botany professor as part of an experiment.
Eventually she gained superpowers – immunity to poisons, and a connection to Nature (called The Green) which grants her several plant-based powers. Her kiss can kill, but kissing a person poisoned this way a second time cures the affliction. She became slightly obsessed with Batman, who is the one person she cannot control with her pheromones.
She has shown herself to have positive traits, such as environmentalism and a strong maternal instinct, as shown when she took care of orphans after an earthquake destroyed Gotham city. The Poison Ivy costume pays tribute to one of the most famous fictional characters.
Poison Ivy Movies & TV Shows
Poison Ivy is a character owned by DC Comics. Though she first appeared and continues to be a staple in the Batman franchise, she has also been included in a few other series. She is associated with several teams like the Suicide Squad and Gotham City Sirens, but she generally works alone.
She is close friends with Harley Quinn, The Joker’s infatuated henchwoman. While misanthropic in general, Poison Ivy and Harley seem to be true friends, as a result of Poison Ivy having nursed Harley from the brink of death. They sometimes work together, but Poison Ivy has a pronounced dislike for Joker, whom she feels is abusive towards Harley.
Perhaps Poison Ivy’s most famous appearance was in the 1996 film Batman & Robin, where she played a central role as a villain. This portrayal was done by Uma Thurman.
So why not choose a Poison Ivy Halloween costume? She is more than just a pretty face – she’s super-powered and still remains human to some extent.
Similar Costumes
Not quite feeling the Poison Ivy Halloween costume? Well, there are quite a few other related choices, but let’s not stray too far.
Harley Quinn, Joker’s boisterous number two is good friends with Poison Ivy, and makes a great choice for a costume. Why? Simply because her costume is so recognizable! Dressed in a bold red and black unitard, and a jester’s cap, she is a cheerful albeit sometimes malicious figure. She doesn’t mind breaking a few hearts – or bones, for that matter – as long as it’s for Joker!
For a true hero of the Batman franchise, there’s always Batgirl. She is the ultimate female crime fighter, being just as capable as Batman in many aspects. She also carries on the aesthetic tradition of Batman. Black is her color of choice, and skin-tight clothes mean maximum mobility. Complete with a cape and belt, this is a true crime fighter’s costume! Stalk the night and catch your man!
